How is a transforaminal injection done?

Using flouroscopic guidance, the doctor will numb an area of skin on your lower back. A small needle will be directed onto the nerve fibers that are generating the pain.  This procedure delivers anti-inflammatory medication right to the problem area.

Some herniated discs will persist even after all the above procedures are tried.  In cases like these, surgery may be the only option.  Discuss the risks and benefits of potential surgical options with the physician.  Surgery should be considered a last resort.
